In the production of both the gin and the whisky, the distillery places great emphasis on traditional craftsmanship, which is carried out with great care by a young team of local distillers. From the initial nosing right through to the manual operation of the steam valves, every step is carried out with dedication and precision. The soft water used for The Hearach comes from the Abhainn Cnoc a’ Charrain stream, which is fed by rainwater and flows over some of the oldest rocks on Earth. This water, which has an exceptionally low mineral content, contributes significantly to the quality of the whisky. Added to this is the oceanic climate of the Isle of Harris, which is influenced by the Gulf Stream and ensures stable temperatures that have a positive effect on the maturation process.
