The name Potcheen is derived from the Irish word for moonshine and from the word "pot", as this spirit used to be distilled mainly secretly and illegally in pots.
The Potcheen is a clear Irish spirit, which is distilled from barley and was banned in 1661 because of its mostly illegal origin.
Since 1997 the Potcheen can finally be sold legally again.
