Torres Mas La Plana Penedés DO 14,5% Vol. 0,75l

Mas La Plana is a Penedès wine created by Miguel A. Torres, and it is one of the best-known names in the Torres range. Its first vintage, 1970, came to international attention in 1979 when it beat some of the world's great Cabernets at the Gault & Millau Wine Olympics in Paris. That result helped change how premium wines from estate-grown grapes are viewed.

The wine comes from the Mas La Plana estate in the heart of Penedès, in the Turons de Vilafranca subzone, between the Foix River and its tributary, the Riera de Llitrà. The 29-hectare vineyard is split into ten plots on two levels: loamy soils on the lower level and mostly marlstone on the higher one. The old Cabernet vines were planted in the 1970s, and they have adapted well to the Mediterranean climate and produce balanced wines. The estate uses regenerative viticulture to restore soil fertility, limit erosion, encourage biodiversity and increase the vineyard's capacity to capture atmospheric CO2.

Mas La Plana belongs to the Antología Miguel Torres collection, a group of five emblematic wines chosen for their provenance and the exclusivity of their winemaking. Presented at 14.5% ABV in a 0.75l bottle, it comes from DO Penedès, Catalonia's oldest winemaking region, which has around 2,700 years of history and lies between the sea and the mountains, midway between Barcelona and Tarragona.
