Portrait: What the Aberlour a'bunadh Batch No. 80
Aberlour has been one of the top international brands since the late 80s.
Aberlour is one of the creamiest malts around, with a clear sherry note and a pronounced toffee -Character.
The a'bunadh (Gael: from the origin, the original) is the finest bottling from the house of Aberlour.
For this Whisky bottles are used that are reminiscent of the shape of the old Scottish apothecary bottles.
The bottles are sealed with wax, as was customary in the past.
Aberlour does not use the usual wooden stoppers when storing barrels and uses cork instead.
The cork stoppers are intended to facilitate the evaporation of larger aromatic substances, resulting in a smoother whiskey.
Aberlour's 78th batch of the coveted a'bunadh (Gaelic: "from the origin").
For this bottling, Spanish ex-Oloroso sherry casks were selected and left natural - i.e. without dyes and without chill filtration, in cask strength - simply "from the origin". - bottled.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: intense spicy aromas, paired with sweet sherry, juicy oranges and the scent of fresh pralines
- Palate: soft and creamy in taste with clear notes of oranges, black cherries and dried fruits, plus an elegant note of ginger and dark dark chocolate - above all sherry and spicy oak
- Finish: robust and intense in the finish, with bittersweet tones of exotic spices, again the chocolate and the oak
