DESCRIPTION
With the Ardnahoe Bholsa Islay single malt whisky, the young Ardnahoe Distillery presents one of its first limited edition bottlings, putting a clear exclamation mark on Islay's whisky map. Located between Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain in the north of the island, the distillery, which was founded in 2018, combines traditional production methods with a modern interpretation. The name "Bholsa" is derived from a nearby bay on the rugged coast of Islay - a place that, like this whisky, is rugged, full of character and deeply rooted in nature.
The single malt Scotch whisky matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, giving it a striking balance of smoky Islay depth, fruity elegance and spicy complexity. The whisky was bottled at a strong 50% vol. without chill filtration and without colorants, which underlines the clear, unadulterated style of the distillery. A characteristic feature is the use of traditional worm tubs, which give the distillate additional texture and depth - a clear sign of quality.
The stylish gift box underlines the premium claim of this bottling and makes it a coveted choice for collectors and lovers of authentic Islay single malts who want to venture beyond the classic style.
Tasting notes:
Color: Light gold with a copper shimmer.
Nose: Peaty, smoky and fresh, with aromas of citrus fruits, green apple, barley malt and a hint of sea salt. In addition, fine sherry sweetness, honey and toasted oak.
Taste: Powerful and structured, with notes of roasted malt, pepper, vanilla, dark fruits, licorice and a deep smoky component that is typical of the northern Islay region.
Finish: Long and warm, with a salty sea breeze, spicy wood, a hint of tobacco and a slightly dry smokiness.
It is ideal for pure enjoyment, for example as an evening dram or as the centerpiece of a whisky tasting with a focus on young, artisan distilleries. In culinary terms, this whisky harmonizes perfectly with smoked salmon, grilled oysters, brown bread with butter and sea salt or strong blue cheese. It also unfolds its full complexity with hearty game dishes, roasted chestnuts or a chocolate dessert with chili.
