DESCRIPTION
Bere Barley is one of the oldest and hardiest varieties of barley in Britain. Cultivating it requires exceptional effort and patience to unlock the full potential of this heritage grain and appreciate its unique characteristics.
Bruichladdich Bere Barley 10 Years Old is a unique single malt whisky made from 100% Bere barley, an ancient Scottish grain grown by the Agronomy Institute at Orkney College. Distilled in 2013, this whisky represents the expression of a single vintage and has been aged for 10 years.
The maturation process took place in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks (80%) and second-fill Pauillac wine casks (20%), resulting in a remarkable, complex taste. The barley used comes from the Weyland and Watersfield, Muddisdale and Quoyberstane farms as well as St. Ola, Westermill and The Northfield in Burray – all ideal growing regions for this special type of grain.
