Caol Ila (pronounced "Cull Eela") is Gaelic for "The Sound of Islay", the strait that separates the Hebridean islands of Islay and Jura.
Somewhat hidden on the rugged east coast, the islanders have been making fine smoky whiskies there since 1846.
The barley used is still malted in Port Ellen, the pure spring water comes from the nearby Loch Nam Ban limestone.

Colour: gold.
Nose: smoky campfire, soapy water, damp wool, hints of mineral oils, wax.
Taste: Soft, mildly sweet, hints of acid, sea salt.
Finish: Long lasting, smoked, slightly acidic.

It is best enjoyed pure, on ice, or with a drop of water to allow all the aromas to unfold.
