The Grappa di Barolo produced by the famous Piedmontese cellar of Angelo Gaja is an excellent distillate, which comes from a raw material of absolute quality. At the base of the manufacturing process are the fresh and fragrant Nebbiolo grape pomace, which comes from the fermentation of the various Barolo crus vinified by Gaja. It is a delicate and elegant distillate, which acquires even more charm thanks to the aging in wood, which helps to refine the profile of the grappa and enrich it with refined toasted notes.
Grappa di Barolo is the culmination of the production cycle of Angelo Gaja's Langhe estate. At the end of the production of high prestige reds, it would have been a shame not to use the pomace to make great grappas with a territorial face. Angelo Gaja needs no introduction; he is one of the most important protagonists of the rebirth of excellent Italian wine. Tied to his land and to the great tradition of the Langhe, he has been able to broaden his gaze towards the most important wine regions of the world, to understand the reasons for their success and bring the same quality standards within his company. His desire to produce only great wines first came true in the Langhe, then also in Tuscany, in the estates of Ca' Marcanda in Bolgheri and Pieve Santa Restituita in Montalcino, as it will be for the new adventure that led him to deal with the fascinating terroir of Etna. Gaja grappas are produced at the Barbaresco Cooperative Distilleria and, in line with the rest of the labels, are all of excellent quality.
Grappa di Barolo Gaja comes from the fermentation of the still fresh and fragrant pomace and from the subsequent distillation, which takes place very slowly with a vacuum-packed discontinuous copper alembic, which allows the delicate aromas of the Nebbiolo grapes to be preserved. At the end of distillation, the grappa ages for a period of 12 months in 225 liter barriques. The Grappa has a light amber yellow color with brilliant old gold reflections. The nose opens on delicately spicy notes, with aromas of citrus fruits, small berries, raisins, toasted dried fruit, honeyed hints and boisé nuances. The sip is soft and persuasive, with intense and enveloping aromas, which close with a good gustatory persistence.
