Octomore Ochdamh-mòr SINGLE CASK Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt 66,2% Vol. 0,7l in Tinbox

The Octomore Ochdamh-mòr SINGLE CASK Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt 66.2% is an exceptional single cask bottling from the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, selected exclusively for Austria. 

This uncompromisingly smoky Islay single malt Scotch whisky is made exclusively from 100% Concerto barley, the malt of which has been peated to an intense 101.4 PPM. After distillation, the whisky matured for six years in a single first-fill bourbon barrel, allowing the powerful Octomore smoke to meld with vanilla, malt sweetness, and the characteristic influences of American oak. The cask was personally selected by Master Blender Adam Hannett, while maturation and bottling took place entirely on Islay.

With an impressive 66.2% ABV, the Octomore Ochdamh-mòr Single Cask showcases the pure character of a single cask in a particularly concentrated form. Sweet barbecue smoke and malty cereal notes mingle with honey, brown sugar, and marzipan, before peach, orchard fruits, and spicy hints of ginger and nutmeg add further depth. Praline, cocoa, and coffee combine with a surprising salty sea note, underscoring its maritime origins. Only 264 bottles were produced exclusively for Austria, making this 6-year-old Octomore Single Cask Edition a particularly rare bottling for collectors and enthusiasts of heavily peated Islay whiskies. Due to the unique combination of barley, cask, alcohol strength, and PPM (powder per milliliter), this edition cannot be replicated in exactly the same way.

Taster's note

Colour: Sunny gold.

Nose: Intense yet complex with sweet barbecue smoke, malty notes of porridge and shortbread, fresh herbs and green leaves, complemented by delicate rose and lavender.

Palate: Powerful and creamy with honey, brown sugar and marzipan, accompanied by peat smoke, peach and orchard fruits, as well as roasted ginger, nutmeg, praline, cocoa and coffee. A salty sea note adds further depth.

Finish: Medium-long and smooth with peat smoke, vanilla and marzipan, carried by a creamy texture.

Due to its robust 66.2% ABV, the Octomore Ochdamh-mòr Single Cask is best enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20°C, although a few drops of still water can further enhance the fruit, malt and smoky notes. Food pairings include smoked meats, strong hard cheeses, grilled lamb or smoked salmon, whose savory flavors stand up to the intense peat smoke. Dark chocolate, pralines, roasted nuts, or desserts with marzipan and peach complement the sweeter components of the whisky. This bottling is particularly interesting for a deliberate tasting alongside other Octomore releases, allowing for a direct comparison of the influence of a single first-fill bourbon cask.
