DESCRIPTION
The history of Smirnoff Vodka began in 1910 when Vladimir Smirnov took over the company after the death of his father Pyotr Smirnov. During the October Revolution, the distillery was confiscated and the family had to flee to Constantinople, where Vladimir built a new distillery. Four years later, the family moved to Lviv; in 1925 the spelling of the name was changed to Smirnoff and by the end of the 1930s Smirnoff was being exported to most European countries. In 1934, Vladimir Smirnov sold the company to Rudolph Kunett, who moved the company headquarters to the USA. Smirnoff is now part of Diageo and is one of the world's best-selling vodkas. Incidentally, Smirnoff was the first distillery in the world to use charcoal for filtering.
In the mid-1990s, it was decided to revive Smirnoff Vodka Black Label according to its traditional recipe. This exceptional vodka is distilled in small batches in a copper still that is over 150 years old, using only the finest grains. The careful manufacturing process, coupled with a unique carbon filtration, gives the vodka its distinctive characteristics.
Compared to conventional production methods, the alcohol yield in this complex process is significantly lower, but this benefits the original grain aromas and preserves them as best as possible.
