The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century and in particular the First World War, which destroyed half of Domaine Louis Roederer, prompted Léon Olry Roederer to rebuild his vineyard.
He decided to buy grapes to ensure the survival of the estate in these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine from several vintages with a consistent taste, regardless of the harvest year.

Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 244, a tribute to taste and pleasure, consists of 54% grapes from the 2019 vintage. The cellar master creates a new symphony every year, inspired by the special features of the year, complemented by wines from the Réserve Perpétuelle and reserve wines aged in oak barrels.

The Réserve Perpétuelle accounts for 36% of the collection and stands for balance and freshness. In addition, 10% are wines from earlier years and young parcels of Cristal, which are matured in French oak. Collection 244 matures for around four years in the cellars and develops an impressive depth.

Meunier grapes give it a soft fruitiness that perfectly complements the more structured Pinots Noirs and Chardonnays. Collection 244 is an exceptional champagne that perfectly reflects the art of the cellar master and the diversity of the grapes.

Tasting notes:

Pale golden yellow with bright reflections and fine bubbles in the glass. A bouquet of citrus fruits, acacia blossom, roasted hazelnuts and white-fleshed fruit. Fine roasted aromas on the palate with fruity and sweet notes of white-fleshed fruit. Long lasting finish.
