The country of Guyana in South America can look back on a long tradition of rum production. 

The small state was once home to hundreds of distilleries, which were created as a byproduct of sugar production and mainly produced rum for the colonial rulers. However, the emerging competition from sugar beet in Europe meant the decline of the sugar industry. More and more distilleries had to close and today only the Demerara Distillers produce rum in Guyana. However, these can rely on a variety of former distilling systems, such as the unique wooden Coffey Still built in 1880.

The El Dorado Rum 25 Years is the oldest and most luxurious edition in the brand's portfolio. 

The distillation of the individual rums took place in 1997, using all three of Demerara's historic stills: the Wooden Coffey Still from Enmore, the Wooden Pot Still from Port Mourant and the metal French Savalle Still from Uitvlught. 

Until bottling in 2022 - the individual components had already been blended two years earlier - the rum spent a full 25 years in the barrel. Due to the Caribbean-tropical climate in Guyana, those 25 years correspond to an even longer period in cool Europe, so it According to the manufacturer, the rum can compete with the oldest cognacs.
