The Fuji Gotemba distillery, which began production in November 1973, was founded as a joint venture between Kirin, Seagram and Chivas Brothers. While both malt and grain whisky is produced at the distillery, all stages of whisky production - from fermentation to bottling - take place on site. After Kirin took full control in 2002 following the dissolution of Seagram and renamed the distillery Kirin Distillery, they began to focus more on their connection to Mount Fuji, leading to the launch of their first single malt in 2004.
