Varela Hermanos was founded in 1908 by a young Spanish immigrant, Don José Varela Blanco.
This plant was the first such enterprise founded in the Republic of Panama.
In 1936, 3 eldest sons — José Manuel, Plinio and Julio — persuaded their father to start distilling sugar cane to make rum.
Since that time, this company has been the leader in the production of alcoholic beverages in Panama.

According to the old technology for the production of rum, cut sugar cane is crushed, extracting juice from it.
Then, by boiling the concentrated juice, molasses is created.
The young rum is distilled during the rainy season and aged in small white oak barrels.
At the final stage, it is filtered and bottled.

At present, the company owns 1,200 hectares of sugar cane plantations, from which 65,000 tons of cane are harvested annually and 1 million boxes of rum are produced from it, which is 90% of the domestic strong alcohol market.

Ron Abuelo CENTURIA Reserva de la Familia is matured in white oak barrels for up to 30 years, making it a Family Reserve.
Due to the traditional Solera method, this rum is only produced in limited quantities.

Colour: Amber.
Nose: powerful, tropical fruit, vanilla, tobacco, hints of coffee.
Flavour: rich, rich, smooth, sweet, spicy, notes of pastry, honey, toffee, liquorice and fruit.
Finish: Long lasting.
