The Benromach 12 Years Old Exclusively Sherry Cask Matured 46% expands the characteristic range of the traditional Benromach Distillery in Speyside with a particularly sherry-influenced interpretation of their lightly smoky house style. This 12-year-old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky spends its entire maturation period exclusively in carefully selected first-fill sherry casks, allowing the influence of the casks to be especially pronounced. Instead of any subsequent finishing, the focus here is on complete sherry cask maturation, combining lush fruit with spices, oak, and the subtle smoke typical of Benromach. Cinnamon, raisins, ginger, and butterscotch define the opening notes, before citrus freshness and cocoa add further depth to the whisky. Bottled

Taster's note

Color: Gold.

Nose: Spicy with cinnamon rolls and stewed raisins, followed by ginger and butterscotch, as well as citrus notes, cocoa powder, and gentle smoke.

Palate: Rich with fruitcake, orange, and raspberry, complemented by freshly ground pepper, toasted oak, and subtle smoke.

Finish: Medium-long and spicy with blackcurrant, fine menthol, and a hint of smoke.

The Benromach 12 Years Old Exclusively Sherry Cask Matured is particularly well-suited for enjoying neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can unlock additional fruit and spice notes. Food pairings include mature hard cheeses, roast beef, game dishes, or toasted walnuts, which provide sufficient structure to balance the robust sherry cask character. For dessert, fruitcake, dark chocolate, raspberry desserts, or pastries with raisins and cinnamon are especially harmonious. Whisky can also be served on a large ice cube if the smoke and spice are to be more subtly pronounced.
