Rum Co. of Fiji RATU 16 Years Old Lautoka Dark Rum 46% Vol. 0,7l

The Ratu Lautoka Dark 16 is a rum from Fiji from the Rum Co. of Fiji distillery in Lautoka. 

Lautoka rum is truly limited edition from Fiji. A selection of five ex-bourbon barrels are carefully nurtured fro 16 years to give aromas of smoky oak, molasses and whiskey, filling the mouth with a sweet smoth texture of oak, spice and dried apricot notes with a peppery middle palate.

The column-style rum was allowed to be stored in bourbon barrels for 16 years and then got a finish for 6 months in 30-year-old Muscat barrels.

 The rum was bottled with 46% alcohol without additives. It is limited to 6000 bottles.

In the nose, the rum is very balanced. Complex come fine ester notes of fermented banana and some wood glue. The rum is heavy with the influence of oak, bourbon, a lot of fruit and caramel. There is a lot to discover here. 

On the palate, the picture repeats itself. The rum has a beautiful body and the 46% do not stand out negatively. The rum has a nice balance of fruit, wood, smoke and bourbon. But also a nice seasoning with roasted nut and vanilla. 

The finish is pleasant with more wood influence some bitter substances and a little leather.
