Company founder Don Andrés Brugal Montaner left his home country of Spain to seek wealth in the Caribbean. After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he moved to the Dominican Republic, more precisely to Puerto Plata, around 1855. The rums of the Brugal company still mature in this city today. After a few years there, he developed his own production process, which ensures the consistent quality of the rums. This process is still a well-kept secret that is now passed down from generation to generation.

Brugal Leyenda Cognac is an exquisite premium rum from the Dominican Republic that reflects the centuries-old expertise of the Brugal family. It is first matured in ex-bourbon barrels made from American oak, which gives the rum a gentle vanilla and caramel note. It is then aged in Oloroso sherry barrels, giving it a harmonious depth with rich, fruity nuances. Brugal Leyenda is given the finishing touch by additional ageing in former cognac barrels.
