Since 2002, Hercynlan Distilling Co. has been producing the finest single malt whisky in the Harz Mountains, right in the heart of Germany.
In 2005, the company moved to Zorge in Elsbachtal, where the whiskey production was expanded step by step.
Only the best regional barley malt, fresh mountain spring water from Zorge and pure cultured yeast are used as raw materials.

The Distillery Edition is a true classic of the Elsburn Distillery.
This whisky matures in first fill sherry casks from Jerez and is a highlight for sherry lovers as well as for anyone who has just entered the world of whisky.
The bottling is done without chill filtration or coloring.

Nose

dark and heavy sherry aromas: plums, raisins, dried and sulphured apricots. Sweet honey, caramel.
Behind it nut flavors (walnut, oily macadamia, a little hazelnut), which makes me lean towards Oloroso, although the beginning shows a PX-heavy-sweet moment - well, maybe both, only sherry casks is on the label.
A whole range of Christmas spices round off the malt.

Taste

slight spiciness right at the beginning, then extremely sweet, then the nuttiness comes to the fore (typical Oloroso). Over time, the nuts become more oily, but also a little bit tart.
Doesn't go into bitterness yet, has more of dark chocolate.
Sticky PX sweetness on the second sip, but because of the nuts I prefer Oloroso.
Spices from the Christmas market. All that's missing is the mulled wine from the stand next door ... phew, but somehow it doesn't come back.

Finish

Sweetness sticks to the tongue for a long time. The nut flavors also linger for a very long time.
