Isle of RAASAY Dùn Cana Second Edition Sherry Quarter Cask Limited Release 52% Vol. 0,7l in Giftbox

Release bottling from the young Isle of Raasay Distillery, located on the Hebridean island of the same name off the coast of the Isle of Skye. This series is released annually as a tribute to the iconic peak of Dùn Caan (Dùn Cana in Gaelic), the highest hill on the Isle of Raasay. With an alcohol content of 52% vol. at cask strength, this single malt is intense, complex and balanced at the same time.

The recipe is based on a blend of peated and unpeated distillate, which was initially matured in former Rye whiskey casks from Kentucky. The whisky was then finished for nine months in small quarter casks (125 liters), which were previously filled with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry from the renowned Bodega Miguel Martin. The result is a multi-faceted interplay of sweet, fruity and spicy notes that perfectly reflects the distillery's signature style. This second edition of the Dùn Cana series stands out due to its individual choice of casks, as each bottling differs slightly in composition or age. Bottled in natural color and without chill-filtration, the whisky remains authentic and unadulterated. 

Tasting notes:

Color: Dark amber with reddish-golden reflections.

Nose: Strong sherry aromas, raisins, dried fruit, fine smoke and sweet spices.

Taste: Full-bodied and complex with notes of dark chocolate, dates, toffee, oak spice and a slight peatiness.

Finish: Long-lasting, spicy, fruity and elegantly smoky.

The Isle of Raasay Dùn Cana Second Edition comes into its own at room temperature, but can also be combined in a variety of ways. It goes well with mature blue cheeses such as Roquefort, hearty meat dishes such as leg of lamb or game and sweet desserts such as fig cake or chocolate tart. It is also ideal as a base for fine whisky cocktails, such as a Smoky Old Fashioned or a Rob Roy, where its sherry sweetness and light smokiness lend a special depth. As a limited edition, it is also a real highlight at any whisky tasting.
