Citadelle Rouge Original Dry Gin 41,7% Vol. 0,7l

In 1775, King Louis XVI granted Carpeau and Stival the right to open the first French gin distillery in the old Citadel of Dunkirk.
Alexandre Gabriel created the current recipe of Citadelle Gin two centuries later.

Wheat from the Picardy region, wild juniper and another 18 hand-picked exotic herbs provide the foundation for this dry gin.
The wheat is blended with pure spring water from Angeac/Cognac and fermented with special yeast. The gin is distilled in the domain Logis D'Angeac, here Charentaiser pot stills are used, which are used from November to the end of March, for the distillation of cognac.


The distillation of this gin is done in pot still, using a total of nine pot stills about 50 years old. The base ingredient of the gin is French wheat. The so-called "progressive infusion" of 24 fresh fruits and botanicals give the dry gin its distinctive and excellent taste. The bottling is done without dyes, additives and sugar.

The botanicals mentioned are, in addition to juniper, orris roots, almonds, fennel, star anise, lemon peel, orange peel, cardamom, violet, nutmeg , coriander, spice bark, licorice, savory, cubeb pepper, sezchuan pepper, angelica roots, cumin, rhubarb, cranberries, blueberries, raspberries and black currants.
