Plantation / Planteray JAMAICA VRW 2017 Kentucky Bourbon Cask Finish Rum 51,8% Vol. 0,7l in Giftbox

This limited single-cask bottling from Jamaica is part of the Planteray Single Cask Collection 2024. It is made from sugar cane molasses at the Long Pond Distillery, where the molasses ferments for one week before being distilled in a traditional pot still. The VRW designation (Vale Royal Wedderburn) denotes a characterful Jamaican rum style with a pronounced ester profile.

Distilled in 2017, the rum first spent six months ageing in the tropics in bourbon casks. It then matured for a further five years and ten months in Ferrand casks in France, and was completed with an eight-month finish in Kentucky bourbon casks. The final finish adds extra influence from American oak to the rum's intense character, for a total ageing time of seven years.

Bottled at 51.8% ABV in a 0.7 l bottle and presented in a giftbox, it has an ester content of 191 g/hl of pure alcohol and a dosage of 0 g of sugar per litre. Planteray Rum, formerly known as Plantation Rum, belongs to the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and is overseen by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel.

Combining Jamaican pot-still rum with a Kentucky bourbon cask finish, this is a rarity of the Planteray Single Cask series and an interesting choice for rum enthusiasts and collectors.
