Port Askaig 100 Proof Islay Single Malt 57.1% vol. 0.7 l Port Askaig 100 PROOF Islay Single Malt is a powerful Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 57.1 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, which impressively reflects the unadulterated character of the famous whisky island of Islay. Port Askaig is the Islay brand of the independent bottler Elixir Distillers and is named after the harbour town of the same name on the north-east coast of the island. The whiskies are blended from carefully selected single malts from various Islay distilleries, the origins of which are deliberately not disclosed. With Port Askaig 100 Proof, one of the brand’s best-known releases is making a permanent return to the core range. 

Originally released in 2015, this whisky quickly became a favourite amongst connoisseurs of full-bodied bourbon cask Islay whiskies. 

Maturation takes place exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, before the whisky is bottled in small batches at the traditional British strength of 100 proof (57.1% ABV). Naturally, the whisky is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring, ensuring that all the natural oils, esters and aromas are fully preserved. 

With its high alcohol content, Port Askaig 100 PROOF unfolds an exceptionally intense yet balanced interplay of aromas. 

Powerful citrus notes meet honey, toasted bread and the characteristic Islay peat smoke, complemented by subtle nuances of milk chocolate, ginger, lemongrass, aniseed and a delicate caramel sweetness. The high alcohol content ensures a full-bodied mouthfeel and brings out the natural flavours particularly impressively. The long, herbally spicy finish with subtle chocolate notes underscores the authentic island character. This smoky Islay single malt is aimed at connoisseurs seeking a powerful whisky with a pronounced bourbon cask influence and an authentic Islay style.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold. Nose: Toasted bread with honey, lemon zest, peaty smoke and milk chocolate. Palate: Full-bodied with citrus fruits, ginger, peaty smoke, a hint of caramel sweetness, aniseed and lemongrass. Finish: Long-lasting, herbally spiced, smoky and slightly chocolatey. The Port Askaig 100 PROOF Islay Single Malt reveals its flavours best when enjoyed neat or with a few drops of still water, which allows its complex bouquet to open up even further. This Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky pairs superbly with smoked salmon, oysters, barbecued beef, mature Cheddar, blue cheese or dark chocolate.
