The makers of the time didn't have to think long about the name Ron Zacapa, as the first bottlings of the rum from Guatemala were released on the market in 1976 to mark the 100th anniversary of the city of Zacapa. From then on, there was no stopping this unique rum, which within just a few decades had spread from its small place of origin into the big wide world.

Ron Zacapa owes its incredible success to many factors, but the Zacapaneca distillery differs from many other rum producers solely in its raw material. Instead of sugar cane molasses, boiled down sugar cane syrup, known as virgin honey, is used for the subsequent distillation. After this syrup has been fermented, it is then distilled in a pot still. After distillation, the young rum travels high into the mountains, where the distillery's warehouses are located and a variety of different barrel types are available.

Ron Zacapa is produced using the Zacapa Solera method, which allows the rum to age for up to 23 years in various wooden barrels in Guatemala. This process, along with the unique mountain storage, gives the rum its distinctive depth and complexity, which have made it famous worldwide.

Nose

Soft, sweet start with aromas of caramel, vanilla, cacao and butterscotch. Continued by sherried notes of caramelized roasted brazil nuts and toasted hazelnut, rounded out by toffee, banana and dried pineapple.

Taste

Complex, generous and full-bodied. Starting with a depth of dried fruit and apricot, building to savory oak, nutmeg, leather and tobacco with notes of coffee and vanilla, balanced with a spicy touch of cinnamon and ginger.

Finish

Intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and dried fruit.
