This limited Paraguayan rum belongs to the Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. It is made from sugarcane molasses at the Fortin S.A. Distillery, where the molasses ferments for two to three days before being run through a column still. The rum was distilled in 2014 and bottled at 45.4% ABV in a 0.7l bottle, presented in a giftbox.

Its maturation unfolds in three stages. The rum first spent eight years ageing under tropical conditions in former bourbon casks, then moved to Ferrand casks in France for another 16 months. It was finished for 27 months in a former Marsala wine cask, one that previously held Sicilian Marsala wine. In total, the rum rested in wood for eleven years and seven months, and the Marsala finish adds extra complexity on top of the long bourbon and Ferrand ageing.

Planteray, formerly known as Plantation Rum, is part of the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and is guided by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, who is known for unusual cask combinations. This bottling has a dosage of 0 g of sugar per litre. Combining South American rum tradition with European cask finishing, it is a rare release in the Single Cask series and an intriguing choice for anyone who enjoys distinctive cask ageing.
